One of the fundamental to the teacher and student
success is the teacher's ability to communicate effectively with students,
parents, and colleagues. For that, ICT serves as an effective communicative
tool for teachers to enhance their communicative skills. That aids in their
teaching and learning to develop a socially constructed learning environment
for the learners. A communicative tool is an application that enables easy communication
between teachers and students, among students, and between teachers and parents
that develops communicative skills. Some of the commonly used examples of
communicative tools are given below;
In this modernized world, I feel
that the ability to communicate well is important for everybody to suit
in a society. As it conveys the intended meaning of ours to others precisely if we
have good communication skills and on the other hand, if you don’t have these
skills then we can’t communicate effectively as what we intended. That might
leads to misunderstanding and create communication barriers among speakers and
listeners. Especially, it is important for teachers to have an effective
communicative skill to deliver the lesson, keep the social connection with parents
and community, and to their own career mobility. To develop communication
skills, we need a platform such as communicative tools to explore and instill
communicative skills.
When we were students in a
school, there was no platform for us to develop communication skills by
accessing communicative tools. That’s the reason why most of us are introverted
and not able to communicate effectively to others. Moreover, we are born as
technology immigrants where we totally depended on olden ways of looking upon
our life and not exploring what is happening in and around the world in the
current situation.
When we have effective
communicative skills, there are lots of benefits for us as mentioned below;
- For teachers to deliver lesson effectively and help their students to achieve academic success. Without good communication skills, teachers disable the learning process as well as their own career mobility
- Recruitment in a job. During the interview process, teachers who have good communication skills can demonstrate what makes them suited to the job. A candidate who cannot clearly express ideas or relate her professional work and experiences may fail the first test.
- For better comprehension to the students. When a teacher fails to communicate effectively with students, their comprehension level drops, and they eventually lose grasp of the subject matter. As time goes on, students' academic progress may suffer from not receiving the proper support in fundamental subjects.
- Better career option for us. People with poor communication skills limit their career options. Good communication skills are essential for practically all subjects and show them a brighter career option in the future
In this lesson, I learned that there are two types
of communication;
- Synchronous – connecting people in real time communication at the same time (Eg: chat, telephone call, videoconferencing, etc…)
- Asynchronous – does not require people to communicate at the same time (Eg: e-mail, blog, wechat, vle, etc…)
